Today's youth is struggling more than any generation before with poor eating habits and low levels of fitness. Parents are beginning to realize the relationship between exercise and childhood obesity. Thus, they are looking for ways to allow their children the opportunity to be fit.

While there is no shortage of outside activities for kids of all ages, outside activities for kids who prefer the indoors are harder to come by. There are so many healthy and fun outside activities for kids that it is surprising not more children are participating in them. Birthday parties are no only about playing games and eating cake anymore. The longer the party lasts, the more likely that it is that you will need to serve a meal as well. Finger foods are often the easiest to make and certainly to clean up after the party.

Birthdays are always special events for children. Making each one a lasting memory that they enjoy, is something to strive for when planning. An important step when planning an outdoor party is to be prepared for all types of weather. When it comes to getting our children involved in fitness activities it can prove to be difficult to compete with the television programs, video games and computers that fill our children's lives. The best way to get kids into a fitness activity is to make it into a game.

As a concerned parent, you know that fitness games for kids are an important part of growing up healthy. Yet in between work, a hectic family life, and a plethora of other obligations, it is sometimes hard to come up with some fun games, and then change them or invent entirely new ones as the child ages.
Before long, the child may become bored with the tried and true games she or he enjoyed just a few short weeks ago, and at times parents will let their child's physical fitness slide or leave it up to the child to find engaging activities.
While in some cases highly motivated children will be able to verbalize the kinds of activities in which they would like to engage, in most cases children will choose the path of least resistance and rather than working out new routines, exercising for the fun of it, or hooking up with other kids to play and stay fit, many kids turn into couch potatoes and begin exercising their video game playing hands and fingers instead.
Fortunately, fitness games for kids are easy to find, and by and large there are two ways of going about it: either choose your child's age as a springboard (find activities that are age appropriate) or choose your child's preference for a certain kind of activity and build from there to find new applications.
For example, if your child is a toddler and loves to run and hide, this makes for a great fitness game involving balls and buckets.
The goal would be to hide the balls under the buckets within a specified period of time. To make this an activity that is centered on a preference for playing with balls simply seek to increase the level of difficulty by requiring the balls to be balanced on top of the buckets.

If we may believe the authorities on the subjects of fitness and healthy nutrition, America's children are not faring too well when it comes to being healthy. Nutritious snacks are often forsaken for the quick fix of a bag of chips and a soda.

Birthday parties for children are always a bit of a dicey issue. On the one hand, you want to give your children the best possible experience, provide oodles of fun and excitement, look the other way when they eat junk food and sugary snacks, while on the other hand you do not want to have your home destroyed, spend a small fortune, or deal with a group of kids on a sugar high and sensory overload.

There are instructional videos on dancing, yoga and aerobics for children of all ages. Fitness programs, clubs and classes such as gymnastics like those at the kid inspired my gym are all the rage.
As Americans have become the most obese nation on the planet we find that it is time to take control of our children's futures by showing them that exercise is fun as well as important.
By setting a healthy fitness foundation our children are more likely to lead healthier lives and lessen their chances of becoming obese adults. An hour of play each day is the rule.
Take walks with your kids or set up a homemade obstacle course in the back yard. Kids can crab walk around the yard and skip rope then hopscotch to the finish line. Encourage your youngsters to participate in an age appropriate sport such as soccer or t-ball.

Why spend a fortune on over priced and poorly manufactured kids party games when you can create your own. Make the classics such as pin the tail on the donkey, beanbag toss and musical chairs but with a party theme twist. For example for your little princess make a pin the slipper on Cinderella game.
For your little Ninja fan pin the Chinese fighting star on the ninja (in the palm of his hand, no violence). Need a beanbag toss idea easy? Take some theme inspired fabric and stuff with rice. Stitch closed and you have your beanbag. Make yourself a captain hook cut out with three holes one in his hook hand, one in his peg leg and one through his hat. Each hole is worth a specific point (1,2 or 3). You do the same thing for a girl's party. Simply pick a character and cut out some holes.
If you don't feel very crafty or creative you can purchase a poster that goes along with your theme and trace three holes then cut them out. If you are looking for something more unusual or unique you can search kid party games online.
An example of this is the shoebox race. You need two shoeboxes, two pairs of mittens, and a bag of mini tootsie rolls, two bowls and two bells. Hang the bells over two plies of tootsie rolls.
Divide the kids into two teams. Have two of the children put the shoeboxes on their feet and the mittens on their hands. Have the kids shuffle down to the bell and ring it with their noses. Then pick up a tootsie roll and shuffle back to the start line where they will drop the tootsie roll into the bucket. The team who gets the most tootsie rolls in their bucket wins. Teaching our children the importance of exercise alongside the joy of fitness is key to raising children who will have a better chance of living life without obesity and related ailments. Allow your child to get involved in a fitness club or class such as gymnastics, dance or karate.

The weather is warmer and it's time to enjoy the great outdoors again. The kids are bursting to be outside in the sunlight so get moving. Take a walk to the park and climb on the jungle gym or race across the monkey bars.
Strap on some roller blades or hop on a bicycle. These are great springtime activities for you and your kids. Begin planning some fun activities to get the whole family moving. Hiking some nature trails or playing a round of Frisbee golf can be great forms of exercise. Go bike riding for some heart pumping enjoyment.
It's normal to remain indoors for longer periods of time in the winter. We are often performing sedentary activities like video games, surfing on the computer or zoning out on some videos on the couch.
When spring comes we are able to get out and begin doing the activities that we weren't able to in the cold. If your kids aren't quite ready to give up the video games break them in easy with only an hour a day of outdoor activity.

When it comes to helping our children gain interest in exercise, we have to show them that it can be fun. Get creative with your kids exercises. Plan a hike to a local nature site and create a type of scavenger hunt. Spot two butterflies and one bumble bee. Look for a feather or animal track.
This can keep kids busy thinking while their bodies is moving. Another fun kid friendly exercise is an obstacle course. Create an area to race through, a tunnel to crawl through and something to leap over.
Add a bunny hop or two and finish it off with a crab walk. Kids will be giggling away while they strengthen their hearts and bodies. Play a game of horse with your kids and see who can make the most shots and the most misses.
Swimming, bike riding and jump roping are all classic childhood activities that we often do not consider exercise. The fact is if your heart rate picks up and you breath a bit harder it can be called exercise.
Take your kids to a local park or run a fitness course. Kids love to try and beat mom or dad at an activity, so make it fun. Get your whole family involved for a great time.
Ask your kids what they would enjoy; you may find that they have some great ideas. Go play a game of Frisbee golf on a sunny day or toss a ball in the back yard. Who says you have to buy a party game pack full of fancy birthday games? Instead you can use some basic and simple party games that kids really enjoy. There is something that is thrilling to kids when they put on a blindfold, are spun three times and told to attach a fake donkey tail to a paper donkey.
Fill up some balloons with air and let the kids pop them by sitting on them. It becomes a contest as they begin to bounce and slide trying to pop the plastic. Musical chairs is always fun and can be done with a few children or a lot.
You can make your own bean bag toss with a piece of card board, a poster and a homemade bean bag made from fabric and rice. Tape the poster to the cardboard after you have cut three spaced out circles. The kids can toss the beanbag through each hole for a specific point value. Whoever scores the most points wins? A scavenger hunt is another great activity.
Create a list of about ten items with a list of clues of where to find the hidden items. The kids can work together in pairs or as two separate teams. This game is great because it can be done inside or outdoors. Feeling silly? You can play a zany game of shoebox race. Kids wear shoeboxes as they shuffle towards a pile of tootsie rolls.
Above the tootsie rolls is a suspended bell. The kids ring the bell with their nose; grab a tootsie roll and shuffle back towards the start line where they drop the tootsie roll into a bowl.
The kids are divided into teams and the team with the most tootsie rolls in three minutes wins. It is fun to watch and fun to play. Simply be creative and think about the classic birthday party games from when you were young. Springtime is around the corner and the kids are itching to get outside. Cabin fever has got the best of them and you need a cure. Spring brings warmer weather and sunnier skies for more outdoor activities. It can still be chilly out so activities for kids that can be wrapped up quickly are key.

Keeping kids busy is always hard work, especially when they're young and need to be supervised all the time. As they get older, it can be good to plan activities for kids which teach them how to do things by themselves. Making a scrapbook is an excellent way for a child to learn research skills and discover the pleasures of acquiring knowledge for its own sake. It helps children to develop their independent interests, and when they compare their scrapbooks they can educate each other.
The first thing to do when planning a scrapbook is to choose a theme. Popular themes include the family, nature, cars, dinosaurs and fairies. Try to settle on something in which your child has demonstrated a lasting interest, rather than just the latest fad. As items are collected, they can be preserved by pasting them into a large sturdy scrapbook. Encourage your child to add notes identifying where each item came from and when it was found. If they have no illustrations for particular items, your children may want to add their own pictures. Scrapbooks can also contain other suitable objects, such as dried leaves in a nature collection or the handprints of family members.
Keeping a scrapbook is one of those great activities for kids which will keep them busy for days whilst helping them to develop valuable skills. It's easy to let kids get away with things. We all have a tendency to spoil our children - to let them lie that little bit longer in bed, to feed them more treats than we really think they should have, and to accept their excuses when we know the real reason they don't want to exercise is simply that they don't want to make the effort.
It's easy to indulge them like this because we can relate to the desire to be lazy and to overeat, but part of the reason we feel that desire is that we're not in perfect condition ourselves.
If we'd been more active as children, we'd find it easy to get out of bed in the mornings feeling bright and alert. We'd enjoy healthy foods and physical work would leave us feeling good. If this seems like wishful thinking, bear in mind that it has a strong scientific basis. fitness for kids provides fitness for life.
We now know that good health in childhood can have major effects on the way our bodies develop as we get older - even if we're not able to keep up that level of exercise in later life. People who are healthy as children generally stay slimmer as adults and have a reduced risk of metabolic conditions like diabetes. They're less likely to suffer from heart problems or respiratory problems, and even some cancers are significantly rarer. Overall, they can live five to ten years longer.
