* Find a My Gym for kids near your home now!
Friday, March 20, 2009
Millions of children around the world are overweight with a large percentage of them moving closer toward obesity each day. There is a real concern from parents and doctors to get children healthier.
However, few gyms exist where kids are welcome. Most often adult gyms discourage child use due to liability issues with the equipment they feature. However, fitness centers for kids are becoming more popular and there are many reasons why.
Kid-Friendly Equipment
An important aspect of any fitness center for kids is the availability of kid-friendly equipment. While adult gyms may be full of boring treadmills and weight machines, fitness centers for kids are more likely to include basketball courts, swimming lap pools and trampolines.
After all, fitness doesn't have to be boring! In fact, research shows more kids are willing to work out and be active if they enjoy the particular form of exercise they're being asked to participate in.
Kid-Friendly Atmosphere
Another benefit to fitness centers for kids is the kid-friendly atmosphere they provide. Not only do they allow children to be surrounding with kid-appropriate equipment and fitness items, but they also have a fun environment.
There is no pressure for children to "bulk up" or "cut weight", like there is for adults in many adult gyms across the country. In addition, many kid fitness centers have on-staff nutritionists and trainers who specialize in childhood fitness. Overall, fitness centers for kids are a great way to allow children to get and stay active. They are safe, affordable and effective!Labels: activities, childrens, fitness, gym, gymnasium, gymnastics, kids

Most parents admit their children are not as active as they should be because they were never influenced to be active. With both parents working in most American households and most of them being overweight themselves, it can be difficult for families to create the time and energy it takes to stay active.
However, once the plan is set and put in motion, active pursuits can be beneficial for the entire family!
To get kids involved in active pursuits parents should do the following:
1. Participate with them! Kids will not likely enjoy activity as much if they are forced to do it alone. In fact, they may see it as a punishment which could carry heavy repercussions later in life regarding exercise and their emotional health. So, parents should get off the couch and get active with their kids.
2. Educate them! Parents should always try to remind children why exercise is important. They should tell them exercise not only allows them to maintain a healthy weight, but also the benefits it gives them for strong bones, healthy muscles and a healthy heart. It's important for them to understand what's going on inside their body since they can't "see" the immediate benefits.
3. Make it fun! If children dread activity, it's vital parents find a way to make it fun. If they love sports, create a family sports day to stay active. If they are treated like soldiers at boot camp, they'll not likely respond well. So, stay calm and create family fun with exercise!Labels: activities, childrens, classes, fitness, fitness classes, gym, gymnastics

When parents think about trying to get their kids to exercise, they often over analyze the issue. Sure, kids need to be active. However, they don't always need as much structure as adults need when it comes to exercise. Thus, there are many easy exercise programs for kids that require little parental planning.
1. Sporting Leagues: The best way to get your kids excited about exercise is to get them involved in a sporting exercise program. Baseball, basketball, football and other sporting leagues are offered at parks all over the world. They are often inexpensive and loads of fun for the whole family.
2. Open Gym Times: Many cities around the country offer open gym hours at their gymnastics locations. These locations often let kids come in for a small cost during these hours and run wild on the equipment. Most often the open gym hours are monitored by professional gymnasts and kids can burn tons of calories having a great time.
3. At-Home Plans: If you can't get your kid out and about for exercise, you may want to think of a family exercise plan. Think about starting simple by committing to a family walk each night after dinner. This is a great way to lose weight and to stay connected with your children.
No matter what you decide to involve your child in, it's important they enjoy the activity. There are so many options for exercise, there's no reason to force them to do an activity they hate. Instead, find something else they like to do and let them have fun while being active.Labels: activities, childrens, classes, exercise, fitness, gymnastics

Many parents have no idea what exercise equipment children can safely use and which equipment they should not use. The truth is there are many dangers associated with children using adult exercise equipment.
While you may be able to allow an older child to use a stationary bike, younger children should not be allowed anywhere near adult equipment. Instead, they can utilize kids exercise equipment.
Balls: Some of the most common and inexpensive kids exercise equipment is balls. Balls of any kind can provide hours of fun and fitness for a child. Not only can children play sports with sport-specific balls (basketballs, soccer balls, etc) but they can also build muscles with regular playground balls. They can kick, throw, roll and bounce their way to better fitness!
Bicycles: Regular bikes are the perfect way to get your child to get active. Biking burns calories, strengthens muscles and provides fun for the whole family. While it's no special piece of kids exercise equipment, a bike does indeed provide a fitness outlet.
Trampoline: Trampolines are a great way to get the kids moving and having a great time. Whether you're splurging for a large trampoline for the whole family, or a mini house trampoline, the kids will love it. They can jump for hours and burn calories while having a great time. Just be sure you follow all safety precautions before and during the use of any sized trampoline.
If you can make fitness fun, your children will be more likely to jump at the chance to use kids exercise equipment to burn fat and calories!Labels: activities, childrens, exercise, fitness, gym, gymnastics

Parents are always looking for new and inventive ways to get their children up and going. They want to make fitness a regular part of their child's life but they also want fitness to be fun and exciting! Parents can quickly turn a party into an excuse for activity with these kids party fun fitness activities.
1. Kids love anything that seems like a game, especially if they know a winning prize is involved. Therefore, parents can take any activity and turn it into a challenge. Simple games of "red light, green light" or tag can be a great way for children to burn energy and calories and have loads of laughs.
2. Another way to get kids moving at a party is to lay out all of your fitness toys (bikes, pogo sticks, jump ropes, mini trampoline, etc). When you blow your whistle, each child grabs a toy and starts to use it. After thirty seconds, blow your whistle again to signal each child to switch toys. This can go on for as long as you'd like!
3. Children love to bounce and if you have access to a big trampoline, they can have fun for hours. Trampolines are great ways for children to burn energy and build strong muscles. However, kids should always be supervised when on a trampoline and all safety precautions should be taken during use.
Getting kids to be active with kids party fun fitness activities is easy, as long as you think and plan ahead!Labels: activities, childrens, classes, fitness, gymnastics

Today's youth is struggling more than any generation before with poor eating habits and low levels of fitness. Parents are beginning to realize the relationship between exercise and childhood obesity. Thus, they are looking for ways to allow their children the opportunity to be fit.
While hitting the treadmill is something parents often do themselves, kids get bored with mundane exercise. Therefore, parents must be creative when finding ways for their kids to be active.
Sports like gymnastics offer children a fun way to burn calories and get fit. The activities done in kids gymnastic classes help children to not only get fit, but also build muscle. Kids leave from class being stronger than when they arrived.
Not only do kid's gymnastics classes allow children to burn calories and gain strength, they also allow kids to constructively burn that everlasting energy parents often see as hyperactivity. A hyper child is always entertained in the gym. By the time their parents pick them up from their gymnastics class, the child is often calm and cooperative.
Many children simply need a little extra stimulation each day in the form of physical activity. This is extremely true with younger boys. While parents of boys may not consider gymnastics class, gymnastics can be a great way for boys to get rid of that extra energy before going home for family dinner and homework.
Overall, kids gymnastic classes are a great idea for boys and girls of all ages. It teaches children safe and fun ways to exercise!Labels: activities, childrens, classes, fitness, fitness classes, gymnasium, gymnastics, kids

Gymnastics classes are an excellent way for children to get the physical activity needed for their health while enjoying themselves and having fun. You do want to ensure that your child is in an appropriate age level class. Gymnastics offers classes for children who are toddler age up through adulthood.
Speaking to gymnastics coach or other location official will allow for more detailed age and lesson class information. Toddlers can enjoy summer salts and other areas of physical movement in a tumbling class. As children enter school age classes and so on courses in gymnastics offer more stimulating challenges such as parallel bars and balance beams.
The positive area of choosing gymnastics for your child's fitness choice is that it meets the three main components for complete physical fitness. These components include endurance, strength and flexibility. Your child or children will receive a full range of health benefits from building bone and muscle strength to becoming more limber which can better prevent sports injuries.
Gymnastics is not only healthy for the body but also for the mind. Completing challenges and seeing progress in ones abilities can increase self-esteem. Also the building of teamwork related skills are great for future use as an adult. Gymnastics classes are often offered in most cities or towns.
You can begin your search through your local phone directory. Tour the facility and speak to gymnastics professional for a better understanding of what is offered for your child. Both you and your child will be thankful in the end.Labels: activities, childrens, fitness classes, gym, gymnasium, gymnastics, kids

There is a time when team sports for kids are counterproductive and parents need to think long and hard if their child's participation in a sport really is a wise choice. In such cases the time commitment is so excessive that it makes normal school work and even just fun time at home with family, siblings and friends impossible.
Such team sports for kids are usually started when they are very young and although it may serve to make the experience normal for the child and even fort he family, it is a far cry from the need for play childhood demands as the norm.
When team sports for kids are counterproductive, quitting does not have to be the only option. Oftentimes parents have the option to simply downgrade the commitment of the child to the league and perhaps enroll in a non-competitive portion of the sports club and then the child can participate for fun instead of trophies.
In other cases the commitment may be lessened by seeking out a less competitive league. Gymnastics club, for example, vary in time commitment simply because some are not concerned with turning out ranking athletes while others have this as their stated goal.
Team sports for kids can be a wonderful experience when they are properly incorporated into the everyday life of a family, but when they take over in time and energy and thus disrupt the normal functioning of the family and the child's schedule, they are not only counterproductive but should be avoided whenever possible.Labels: childrens, classes, fitness, fitness classes, gym, gymnasium, gymnastics, healthy nutrition

There is no other demographic as heavily marketed to as children and young teens. At the same time, there is no group whose caloric intake is as closely monitored at the same time. Combining these two truisms, it is somewhat surprising to see so many children being grossly overweight.
Yet nutritious meals and healthy eating for kids requires parental involvement and when parents are willing to abdicate their power of choice to the latest fad on television or simply succumb to the Siren song of the fast food industry, obesity in childhood is a logical phenomenon.
Nutritious meals and healthy eating for kids is not a goal that requires a Herculean effort, but there are some tips parents should follow to make it easier on them and their kids. For example, while fresh fruit is the best choice, the washing, peeling and cutting are sometimes considered a hassle.
Fortunately, several manufacturers now offer prepackaged fruits and also veggies that have been washed, cut, and cleaned to be edible straight from the package. Although a bit more expensive than their natural counterparts, they are nonetheless a great way for kids to eat their fruits and veggies and for harried parents the time savers needed.
Nutritional meals and healthy eating for kids requires parental involvement also because in some cases children are not aware of some choices they might have. While it is easy to opt for a bag of cookies, when introduced to snack sized cracker and cheese portions which are nutritionally much more sound than cookies could ever be kids may decide to opt for those foods instead. Yet unless a child is introduced to these choices by a parent, she or he will not know that they are indeed available options!Labels: childrens, exercise, fitness, gymnasium, gymnastics, nutrition, obesity

If you are looking for an activity that will help your child grow in strength, stamina, athletic ability, poise, and self esteem, look no further than the local gymnastics gym, such as the many that are offered by the My Gym franchise.
Kid's gymnastics classes are great fun but they serve so many other purposes as well. As a matter of fact, physicians agree that many early childhood problems, such as an unsteady gait, turned in toes, or even a problem with balance, can be positively affected by enrollment in a child's gymnastics class.
Kid's gymnastics classes are great fun for parents too. Many early childhood classes have adopted the "parent and me" approach and as such gym time actually becomes structured playtime and the parent and child will bond further while having a lot of fun at the same time.
Since the majority of these exercises at least at the onset do not require costly equipment, they can continue on at home in the backyard, or even on the playground!
If you are ready to check out id's gymnastics classes in your area, make sure you find a gym that offers classes at the hours which work best for your schedule. Having to rush will not make this a pleasurable experience for either you or your child.
On the flip side, carefully planning your activities has the power to bring you and your child closer together and thus create a bond healthy in mind and heart that is sure to last a lifetime.Labels: activities, children, classes, gym, gymnasium, gymnastics, kids
