Thinking about joining a kids gym but you just haven't made the move?

Here are some reasons to consider joining a kids gym:

You know all the reasons that kids need to be fit and all the reasons that a startling large number of them are not. Kids fitness is important because it is a big determining factor in the health of children. Many children in the United States are overweight and this unfortunate problem is getting worse.

There is less exercise and physical activity in public schools and many children spend hours each day watching television or on the computer. Everyone is busy and yet kids fitness needs to be a priority for all ages.

Parents of very young children can start a kids fitness program from the very beginning. Babies can be taken with parents as they walk or ride bikes. They can watch mom or dad exercise at home. It won’t be long and even a small child will want to get in on the fun.

Parents are becoming concerned about kids fitness. Many children today are not physically fit and this can lead to all kinds of health problems.

You can devise a kids fitness plan that will get your kids in shape and the whole family will have fun, too. It's not hard and it won't take much time.

Start with a calendar that is just for the kids fitness plan. At least three times a week you can list things that will be done by each child either alone or with another member of the family. At least once a week, schedule a family fitness activity.

None of these activities need to take hours. If your family is out of the exercise habit completely you may want to start slowly anyway. Schedule the kids fitness activities in half-hour increments.

Think of the things your child likes to do. You can use exercise videos or CD's. Dance exercises may work for some children. Anything that gets the kids moving will work.

When the weather is nice, get everyone outside for kids fitness time. Kids can ride bikes, run races, jump rope or play tag. They can get other kids involved from the neighborhood. If the kids have friends over to play make sure that part of the visit is spend with physical activity.

A really easy way to accomplish a kids fitness plan is to enroll the children in a kids fitness program at a children’s gym. This is a good place for the kids to run off a little energy and to take part in favorite or entirely new activities.

You know that kids exercise is crucial. You also know that it has gotten to the point that the kids would rather do almost anything other than exercise. Here are a few ways to get your kids to exercise, even if they don't want to.

Shut off the T.V. until the kids have played outside or done something physical for a certain amount of time each day. Explain to them that "something physical" does not mean chasing the dog through the house or jumping on the beds.

Keep a log of physical activity and kids exercise times. Once the child has reached the weekly or monthly goal it is time to choose a physical activity of their choice to be done with the entire family, mom or dad, or a friend.

Invite a friend along for the fun. Instead of play dates that consist of chips, soda, and a movie, revise your thinking. Plan time with a friend that includes bowling, skating or hiking.

It's a trade-off. For so many hours of kids exercise, a fast food meal will be allowed. This will be a good plan on more than one level. If you find yourself indulging the kids in too many fast food meals each week you can not only decrease the fat and calories but at the same time you will be increasing the physical activity.

Give a special gift to the kids for their birthdays and purchase a membership to a kids gym. This will be money well-spent and the kids will have a gift that they won't get tired of. It will also be a gift that promotes kids exercise and a healthy lifestyle and it's hard to say that about the latest video game or electronic toy.

There are probably far more than five reasons for joining a kids gym but here are five reasons to get you headed in the right direction.

#1 reason to join a kids gym: You know that your children get very little exercise. They may seem lethargic and do not appear to be interested in anything that remotely resembles exercise.

#2 reason to join a kids gym: Your children are gaining weight and you are concerned about their health. The last time they had a check-up, the doctor voiced her opinion and suggested better nutrition and more physical activity.

#3 reason to join a kids gym: The television is on constantly or the kids are spending far too much time playing video games. They seldom go outside and the bikes and roller skates have not been used in months.

#4 reason to join a kids gym: The school your children attend has cut back on recess time. There is very little time allowed on a regular schedule for the kids to run and play.

#5 reason to join a kids gym: Your child is not the least bit interested in team sports. She does not want to play basketball, soccer or softball. You know that there is a chance that involvement in a kids gym will not only provide exercise but may get her interested in a sport.
