If we may believe the authorities on the subjects of fitness and healthy nutrition, America's children are not faring too well when it comes to being healthy. Nutritious snacks are often forsaken for the quick fix of a bag of chips and a soda.

In the same vein, the only kind of exercise many kids get throughout the day are either the school mandated physical education classes or the exercise their favorite video game character undergoes later on in the day.

Are fitness classes for kids really necessary? Granted, they provide a structured environment for children where exercise is an option that is undergone safely and preparedly, but would it not make sense that parents who are dedicated to getting their kids to such an extracurricular activity in the first place will also be the parents who will not give in to the quick fix of the junk food aisle?

Perhaps surprisingly, fitness classes for kids are indeed a much needed option for many kids, even for those of devoted and caring parents.

Consider the fact that fitness classes for kids help children understand not only the need for exercise, but will also help them to learn how to exercise properly and thus minimize the possibility of injuries.

Frequently this goes beyond the scope of time that parents have to devote to their children's physical fitness, and thus these are much needed lessons which can be learned outside the home.

In addition to the foregoing, consider also that many fitness trainers will also touch on healthy nutrition as part of the exercise program, and thus these classes are a most valuable resource for children and parents alike.

Of course, there is also the secondary benefit of helping children enrolled in such classes to develop better control over their bodies, achieve fitness goals, and therefore also bolster the child's overall sense of self worth, self esteem and of course sense of accomplishment.
