Every parent faces a real challenge these days when it comes to children's fitness. Despite the efforts of schools, it's clear that children's fitness is on the decline and that we need to take responsibility for it ourselves. We can do all the obvious things, like making sure our children have a healthy diet and encouraging them to play outside, but it's still difficult to fend off obesity and related health problems if they're just not interested in being active.
The key to raising healthy kids is making children's fitness fun. The earlier you start, the easier this is to do, but you should never worry that you've left it too late. Kids can benefit from increased activity at any stage in life. Active games in early childhood, when they're eager to interact with their parents, are a great start. This can start even before they can walk, with chases across the floor as they crawl. Try to set a good example, demonstrating that you enjoy physical pursuits, and you'll boost your children's fitness.
Central to children's fitness is play activity. It does no good to enrol them in team sports if they're just going to sit on the benches doing as little as possible. Play games with your children while they're young and help them develop their own interest in being active. You can improve your children's fitness by encouraging them to participate in informal games with other children, such as chasing one another or climbing trees. Quiet, imaginative children who avoid group play may respond to challenges where they try to break their own records.
Introducing an element of play into children's fitness activities can turn things around for them. Instead of being a chore which adults inexplicably insist on, children's fitness can be a central part of their emotional as well as their physical development - a source of fun, and something they won't want to stop.Labels: activities, childrens, fitness, kids
