Every parent knows that it's hard work helping a child to succeed. Even if the child is keen, school can be exhausting, homework frustrating, and it's difficult preparing for exams. Yet whilst we concentrate on helping our kids to make the best of their academic opportunities, it's all too easy to overlook another vital aspect of their welfare. Children's fitness is in decline all over the western world, and we need to do something about it.
Health and fitness are essential to success in the adult world, and naturally they're something we all want for our children. Children's fitness is key to their fitness as adults. It's not just about getting into good habits - it's also about educating the body at a physical level. When we help to build up children's fitness we teach their bodies that they are living in an environment where they need to be active and alert. This means that their bodies will prioritize building muscle and maintaining strong hearts and lungs, as opposed to storing fat. Children's fitness is thus essential in determining the way they're going to experience the rest of their lives. It can help them to avoid health problems and live longer.
Children's fitness doesn't have to be developed at the expense of their academic performance. It can feel difficult finding time for everything, but a healthy child will have more productive time overall, as they'll need to sleep less. Improving children's fitness makes them more alert and better able to concentrate in class. It can also decrease their proclivity to mood swings. Just as in adults, children's fitness is a great antidote to stress, and it does every child good to get away from the books for a while and have the chance to do something physical.
When you help to improve your children's fitness, you're giving them an advantage which will last for the rest of their lives. Children's fitness really is as important as anything they study, so don't let it be forgotten.
