Children's exercise and fitness go hand-in-hand. You can be the role model and help your child down a path that leads to fitness and exercise for a lifetime.

Pay attention to what your child is eating. You may need to make a few changes, especially if your current diet consists of several fast-food meals a week. Do some research and figure out the calories and fat in these kinds of meals and then determine if this is the type of food that should be eaten on a regular basis.

A fast-food meal once-in-awhile is fine and gives your kids something to look forward to. Once your children are older you may not have as much control over what they eat but if they learn good eating habits when they are young, they are more likely to continue when they reach the teen years.

Fill your cupboards and the refrigerator with healthy snacks. Stock up on low-fat yogurt and popcorn. Keep fresh fruits and veggies cleaned and ready to eat. Wait until your children are older to introduce soda. If you get the kids used to drinking lots of water, this may become a habit.

The same is true about children's exercise and fitness. Don't wait until your children are in school to start a children's exercise plan. You have all kinds of options and when you join them and make exercise time a fun experience, your children will look forward to these times spent together.

If you are a member of a gym, get a membership for your children at a kid's gym. This is one of the best ways kids can get used to exercise and they will be with other children who are taking part in the classes with them. The people who work at a kid's gym know how to teach children how to exercise. They can help a child come to realize the importance of exercise and teach them new skills.

As a parent, you are the one who is ultimately responsible for your children's exercise and fitness experiences. Children who are taught to eat properly and learn how to make exercise a part of their regular schedules will be healthier as children and also as adults.
