If you are concerned about the health of your children and have been making strides to improve exercise and eating plans, you can carry this over on special occasions like children's birthday parties.

Why throw all your hard work down the drain and backtrack when it time for a birthday celebration? There is no need to do this and sometimes when you get off track it is hard to get back on again.

This is not to say that children's birthday parties can't be fun or will be dull if you don't have ice cream, cake loaded with frosting and goodie bags filled with sugary treats. Keep the cake and serve frozen low fat yogurt. Instead of sending the children home with a bag of candy, choose other gifts like pencils, stickers or small toys.

Many times the activities at children's birthday parties are not very physical. The kids sit and watch a clown or magician. They view a video or go to the movies. There are other activities you can plan that will keep the kids active.

Talk to the birthday child and see what he or she would like to do. Give him or her some choices like outdoor games or going to the bowling alley. Plan a picnic at the park and bring a soccer ball or softball equipment.

Another thing to consider at children's birthday parties is the age of the party goers. Is it too soon for your 5 year old daughter and her littler friends to go to the spa for a makeover? Would it be better to wait a few years before taking preschool kids to the video arcade? It may be healthier to think of children birthday party activities that are more age appropriate.

A great and healthy way to celebrate your children's birthday parties is to plan the party at the gym. You can plan the food and the activities. The kids will have fun and be physically active. This is the kind of party that promotes exercise combined with fun.

When you want to plan a healthier children's birthday party, consider the possibilities above. The kids will have a wonderful time and enjoy a party that is good for them!
