Kids love to exercise. As opposed to their grown up counterparts, for them exercise is a part of life, not some drudgery they have to force themselves to engage in. Perhaps even more accurately, it is the kids who have to force themselves to be sitting still on a chair during class or on the sofa during a feature length movie.
It's not surprising that a large number of kid's gym classes have sprung up, and if you take a look at the local parks & recreations calendar for your area, you are bound to find some.
Of course, to get the most out of a kid's gym, you will need to look for a class that uses child appropriate equipment, and also offers some great games the kids will enjoy. Just like adults, they do not like exercise simply for the sake of exercise, but unlike the adults, they will go for hours - if you let them - if there are games involved.
Take for example cartwheels. Children love to do cartwheels, and specialized equipment is available to help kids learn how to appropriate do this fun exercise, and also keep it as a game.
You could have a whole group of kids doing a relay up and down a large gym mat to see which group is the fastest doing cartwheels down and back up the mat accurately.
So perhaps adults can take a clue from the kids - when you exercise, have fun with it. Don’t make it an exercise in drudgery but instead make it a fun-filled experience and you will be much more likely to come back again.
