Obesity is becoming a big problem that is spreading across America. Obesity in school children has tripled in the last twenty years. The numbers are astounding; one in five children is overweight. No child is immune to this problem of obesity. It does not matter what race, gender or age you are.

Children who are obese are more susceptible to getting sick and having health problems. More and more obese children are getting type two diabetes as well as high cholesterol and blood pressure which can lead to heart disease. Another common problem for children who are obese is sleep apnea. Sleep Apnea can lead to serious problems such as loss of memory and learning difficulties.

While there are many factors that lead to childhood obesity, there are two main factors that lead the way. The first is lack of exercise. Parents have to be responsible for their kid's lack of exercise. All you have to do is get out with your kid for a little while everyday and do something fun.

The second factor that leads to childhood obesity is poor eating habits. Again, as a parent you have to monitor what foods your kid is eating. Eating fast food and junk food all the time is an easy way to pile on the pounds. Being a good parent means keeping healthy snacks in your home including juice bars, fruit, and the like. Also, make sure your kids are eating vegetables every night at supper.

Preventing childhood obesity has to start with the parents and it has to start early in a child's life.
