A recent Texas study showed that nearly half of the children born after 2000 are prone to diabetes as people continue to eat more and exercise less. These odds increase for African American and Hispanic children, as fully half of them are likely to develop the disease. It has been rumored that these numbers would be high after the study was completed but these numbers were much higher than anticipated.
Ways to improve your child’s chances of not becoming a potential diabetic is to keep your child healthy. Make sure you are feeding your kids nutritional foods like vegetables, juice bars, and healthy snacks. You put your child in danger when you allow him or her to eat unhealthy food all the time. Types of food you should avoid are any kind of junk food in big quantities like potato chips and cookies. When your child cleans his room reward him with an apple instead of a sugary snack.
Another way you can improve your child’s chances of not becoming a diabetic is to get your kids in shape with exercise. Exercising is important because it can potentially keep your kids from becoming obese which is a direct link to diabetes. Ways to get your children to exercise is doing things as a family such as bicycle riding or a game of capture the flag. Remember to keep it fun so the kids do not lose interest, and participate WITH them.
These are just a couple of ways to help prevent your child from becoming a diabetic. Obesity is directly correlated to diabetes so keep your kids healthy by feeding them right and keeping them healthy and fit with exercise.
